When it comes to rapid and special rapid trains in the Keihanshin area, many trains have some of the cars stop at intermediate stations due to the effective length of the platforms. However, a very small number of trains operate as multi-tiered trains where both cars continue on after splitting at an intermediate station. The most famous is the weekday morning special rapid train (Kosei Line) bound for Tsuruga & (Biwako Line) bound for Maibara, but in fact, on weekends and holidays, there is only one multi-tiered train operating in the outbound direction.
