Extreme expedition to Zinalrothorn (4221 m) – one of the most demanding four-thousanders in the Swiss Alps. Our ascent of this four-thousander via the Nordgrat north ridge proved to be a true test of endurance, courage and skill. Extreme ridge climbing in poor conditions was not easy. This exciting Alpine ridge was covered in ice, and icy rocks and difficult belaying meant that every step required maximum concentration. The storm that came at the top only increased the adrenaline level. Fighting lightning, snow and hail, we struggled not only with technical difficulties, but also with our own fear and Mother Nature. During the descent on the Zermatt side, more challenges awaited us. Changing weather conditions, poor visibility and an unknown route made the descent as extreme as the ridge climb. Every moment required quick decisions and full cooperation.
