FC Basel is currently in decline. Instead of playing for the Swiss championship, they are fighting against relegation in the Super League. Reason enough to talk about the reasons for the current crisis... and many of the stories are hard to believe because they shouldn't happen in a professionally run club. A big problem is the lack of a sporting concept. Within a few years there have been three sporting directors, all of whom had completely different ideas about the squad. Should FC Basel rely on its own talent, on players from South America or on loan players from top clubs? They tried everything, but nothing really worked. Another problem is the lack of continuity.
