First reading Deuteronomy 6, 2-6 Reading from the book of Deuteronomy, Deuteronomy 6, 2-6 Moses spoke to the people: "Reverently fear the Lord your God all your days and keep all his commandments that I give you, so that you may endure for a long time. Hear therefore, O Israel, and keep them faithfully, that you may prosper and multiply in a land flowing with milk and honey, as the Lord, the God of your forefathers, has promised you. Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. You will love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your strength. Take to heart these words that I command you today.” This is the word of God. Responsorial Psalm, Ps 17 (18), 2-3a. 3bc–4. 47 and 51ab (P.: 2) P. I love you, Lord, my strength! "I love you, Lord, with my strength!" † Lord, my rock, * my fortress, my savior! - P. My God, shelter me, where I find shelter, * my shield, my strength of salvation, my fortress!" I called on the glorious Lord * and I was saved from all my enemies. - P. Long live the Lord! † May he be glorified, my rock, * exalted be the God who delivered me! You give victories to your king, * you show faithful love to your anointed. - P. Reading from the Epistle to the Jews, Hebrews 7, 23-28 Brothers and sisters! Many became priests of the former Law, because death prevented them from remaining longer. And since this one endures forever, he has an irrevocable priesthood. Therefore, he is able to save forever those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede for them. It was fitting for us to have such a High Priest: holy, innocent, pure, separated from sinners and exalted above the heavens. He does not need, like the other high priests, to offer daily sacrifices first for his own sins and then for the people's, because he did it once for all time by sacrificing himself. The law appointed men with weaknesses as high priests, and after the oath given by the law, the word appointed a perfect Son forever. It is the word of God. Afterword before the Gospel, Jn 14, 23 P. Alleluia. - If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, - says the Lord, - and my Father will love him; and we will come to him. - Mr. Alleluia. ✠ From the Holy Gospel according to Mark, Mk 12, 28b-34 At that time, a scribe came to Jesus and asked him what the first commandment of all is. Jesus answered him: "The first is this: Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is the only Lord; so love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength. Second: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than this." Then the scribe answered him: "Well, Master, you have spoken the truth: God is one and there is no other beside him; and to love him with all your heart, with all your mind, and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and other sacrifices." Seeing how wisely he answered, Jesus said to him: "You are not far from the Kingdom of God!" And no one dared any more to question him. This is the word of the Lord.
