Author of some fifty works, he has published several works on sociology and the history of religions, novels translated into some twenty languages, books on world crises that advocate individual and collective responsibility, and essays that aim to popularize philosophy. ----------------------------------------------------------- Banished from the Jewish community at the age of 23 for heresy, Baruch Spinoza decided to devote his life to philosophy. His goal? To discover a true good that would "give him for eternity the enjoyment of a supreme and incessant joy." During the twenty years that remained to his life, Spinoza built a revolutionary work. How could this man, in the middle of the 17th century, be the precursor of the Enlightenment and our modern democracies? The pioneer of a historical and critical reading of the Bible? The founder of depth psychology? The initiator of philology, sociology, and ethology? And above all, the inventor of a philosophy based on desire and joy, which overturns our conception of God, morality and happiness? In many ways, Spinoza is not only far ahead of his time, but also of ours. This is what I call the Spinoza "miracle".
