Since 1930, the term "Côte de Beauté" has referred to the 30 kilometers between Meschers-sur-Gironde and La Palmyre, in Charente-Maritime. A well-deserved nickname given the magnificent landscapes of this coastline, but behind the postcard lies another reality, because here, the sea can be very dangerous. Since its creation in 1967, the SNSM, the National Society for Sea Rescue, has only worked with volunteer rescuers. In Royan, there are around forty of them to cover 90 kilometers of coastline. Raphaëlle Brenuchon boards the Royan SNSM vedette to watch an impressive sea rescue exercise with the Navy helicopter. We then set off to discover a heritage that evokes vacations! Stéphane Magrenon tells us the story of Saint-Palais-sur-Mer, one of the oldest seaside resorts in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. We take you behind the scenes of the famous Palmyre Zoo, which welcomes more than 600,000 visitors each year. The Palmyre Zoo has been a family affair for 3 generations! It was Claude Caillé who created this zoological park from scratch, in the middle of the pines, in 1966. Today, Pierre, his grandson, has taken over. Finally, to end this program in Charente-Maritime, Raphaëlle and Jérôme Bonche, from the Environat association, go fishing on foot. An opportunity to learn how to preserve this coastline and its precious landscapes.
