Today, we take you to discover an unmissable natural heritage of the Basque Country: the Rhune! This mountain is not the highest in the Pyrenees, its summit peaks at 905 meters, but it occupies a prime place in the hearts of the Basques. For those who live at its feet, the Rhune is part of the family. Reaching its summit has long been a trying expedition, but since 1924 it has been possible to climb it by train! Aboard these carriages with their old-fashioned charm, we go back in time and take our time, the speed of the Rhune train does not exceed 9 km/h! The engines date back almost 100 years, so behind the scenes, a whole team takes great care of this railway heritage. Jean-Michel Garat accompanies Raphaëlle on a hike on the Rhune. The former doctor from Sare has developed a passion for this mountain like no other, he knows all its secrets, all its stories, even the most surprising ones. In the Basque Country, nature is omnipresent, living in harmony with it is necessary. But sometimes cohabitation between humans and animals is not easy. Hegalaldia is the only wildlife rescue center in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. For 20 years, Stephan Maury and his team have been collecting injured animals to treat them and allow them to return to freedom in their natural environment. To end this program, Raphaëlle sets off to discover a product that has become the emblem of the Basque hinterland: Espelette pepper. People come from far away to admire the colorful peppers that dry at the end of summer on the fronts of houses. At the Belazkabieta farm, Panpi Olaizola is in full harvest.
