After sufficient practical experience with the prototypes of the SD 202 double-decker, the cars 3500 (D 80), 3501 and 3502 (both D 83), a large series of the second generation VÖV standard double-decker - the further development of the proven SD 200 - was manufactured for the first time in 1986 by the Berlin body manufacturer Waggon-Union. 70 vehicles were manufactured from the D86. The D86 were in regular service with the BVG until October 2005, and they were also the last buses without RBL. Car 3550 has been completed since the beginning of 2019 and has been seen almost daily on the 218 since then.
