Sherlock Holmes and the Key (1946) Director: Roy William Neill Screenwriters: Leonard Lee (screenplay), Frank Gruber (adaptation), Arthur Conan Doyle (adaptation of a story) Actors: Basil Rathbone, Nigel Bruce, Arthur Conan Doyle Basil Rathbone, Nigel Bruce, Patricia Morison Genre: Crime, Mystery Country: United States Language: French Also known as: Sherlock Holmes and the Secret Code Release date: May 24, 1946 (USA) Filming location: Universal Studios - 100 Universal City Plaza, Universal City, California, USA Story: Sherlock Holmes is intrigued by the visit of Julian "Stinky" Emery, a friend of Dr. Watson, who tells them of a strange burglary that occurred the previous night in his apartment. Stinky is an avid collector of music boxes and has several very valuable pieces in his vast collection. The night before, someone broke into his apartment and knocked him unconscious when he tried to intervene. The box was one of three available for sale, and as Holmes and Watson begin to track down the other buyers, it becomes clear that someone will stop at nothing, including murder, to recover the three music boxes. When Holmes learns the identity of the music box's maker, he becomes convinced that it contains clues to recovering a valuable object that the government has kept from the public. Reviews: "The latest in a wonderful cycle of 14 films that have been released by various major production companies, but have always retained the brilliant lead duo of Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce as Sherlock Holmes and his loyal assistant, Dr. Watson." Some say this is a much weaker entry in the series, but quite frankly I have no idea what those opinions are based on, as this is another wonderfully scripted and professionally directed detective adventure! When a former classmate of Dr. Watson's is found murdered, Sherlock Holmes immediately suspects that it has something to do with his latest collectible purchase, namely a wooden music box. [...] Holmes' female adversary, for example, is a really clever woman who almost manages to set a trap for our brilliant detective in a very well-edited sequence. Furthermore, "The Secret Code" moves at a fast pace and contains a lot of great dialogue. As usual, Bruce's character Dr. Watson brings some great comedic moments to the story, including the scene where he tries to comfort a little girl who has just been traumatized by imitating the sound of a duck... impressively, by the way. » written by "Coventry" on IMDb.com Also known as (AKA): (original title) Dressed to Kill Brazil Melodia Fatal Brazil (reissue title) Vestida Para Matar Bulgaria (Bulgarian title) Жажда за убийство Finland (TV title) Sherlock Holmes ja soittorasioiden salaisuus Finland Sherlock Holmes ja surmansävel Finland (TV title) Soittorasioiden salaisuus France La clef France (DVD box set title) La clé France (long title) Sherlock Holmes et la clef France (DVD box set title) Sherlock Holmes et la clé Germany Jagd auf Spieldosen Germany Todbringende Spieldosen Germany Sherlock Holmes - Jagd auf Spieldosen Italy (working title) Il mistero del carillon Japan (Japanese title) シャーロック・ホームズの殺しのドレス Mexico Melodía mortal Poland Sherlock Holmes i tajny szyfr Portugal A Mensageira da Morte Soviet Union (Russian title) Шерлок Холмс: Прелюдия к убийству Spain (alternative title) Vestida para un asesinato Spain Vestida para matar USA (working title) Prelude to Murder USA (DVD title) Prelude to Murder USA (DVD title) Sherlock Holmes: Dressed to Kill USA Dressed to Kill Sherlock Holmes in Dressed to Kill ······················································································· ✘ Website: https://www.artflix.info SUPPORT US! ✘ Membership - https://bit.ly/3hHoooh MORE MOVIES! ► Film Noir: https://bit.ly/3JPrNye ► Classic films: https://bit.ly/3JYEZRC ► All playlists: https://bit.ly/3JT7bVU #filmsclassiques #oldfilms #classiques ·························································································· COPYRIGHT: All of the films published by us are legally licensed.
