“Makota Azwela” is a documentary about how the Angolan cultures of the Bantu people influenced the São Paulo manifestations of caiumba, jongo, samba de bumbo and samba itself. Based on a historical context, the São Paulo traditions and festivities that emerged from these cultural exchanges are presented, describing their formation processes, the maintenance of African traditions in Brazil, as well as the cultural transformations of these traditions, using the emergence of samba as an example.
