All of us, at some point in our lives, have experienced suffering in its various forms: illness, tragedy, injustice, persecution, or even as a consequence of our mistakes. On these occasions, countless questions inevitably arise about why these evils occur in our lives. Many, in addition to questioning themselves, end up harboring a deep revolt against God, precisely because they do not understand why He allows some evils instead of “shielding” us against them all. However, in these situations, the only thing we should understand — and accept — is that God, in His wisdom and goodness, knows exactly what is best for us and for our salvation. As for us, who often allow ourselves to be guided by crooked criteria, if we had all our wishes fulfilled, we would truly be on the path to perdition. This homily was given by Father Paulo Ricardo on June 25, 2023, the 12th Sunday in Ordinary Time, at a morning Mass at the Cristo Rei Parish in Várzea Grande (MT).
