In the parable of the ten virgins, five of them are praised as being prudent because they “took vessels of oil with their lamps.” The other five are called foolish or imprudent because they did not take enough oil and therefore did not attend the wedding feast. This oil represents everything we need to do to be saved, but above all the so-called “state of grace,” a gift we received on the day of our baptism and which we must maintain throughout our lives. To do so, however, we must permanently renounce all mortal sins, all at once and forever—no matter what the “new” and “trendy” theologies say to the contrary. This homily was given by Father Paulo Ricardo on November 12, 2023, during the morning Mass at the Cristo Rei Parish in Várzea Grande (MT). At the time, he was celebrating the Mass for the 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time, year A.
