During his active years, Ildikó Lendvai was on the front lines of everyday public battles. He never assumed the position of state secretary or minister, even though his name came up regularly. For many years he was the faction leader of the Hungarian Socialist Party, then when everything collapsed for the left and Ferenc Gyurcsány said goodbye to the position of party chairman after becoming prime minister, he became the president of the socialists for a fleeting year. Through the lens of Ildikó Lendvai, many behind-the-scenes secrets from the political life of the past 30 years come to light. Why was the coalition with the liberals necessary? Was János Veres unfit for the position of Minister of Finance and could not calculate the budget deficit, or did they really "lie the last year and a half or two"?
