Before, the São Pedro Market was floating, its structure was made of wood, on stilts, and extended over the waters of Guanabara Bay. It was at the height of the Niterói boats. For reasons of urban planning and public health, and in 1970 with the beginning of the landfilling of the Niterói coastline, the floating market moved to its current address. The fishmongers were then expropriated, and with that, the fishmongers got together and bought the land at Ponta da Areia, the current location, and built in shares, among 40 owner partners. Current. Over the years, the market has grown and established itself. There are currently around 40 kiosks. Today, the Market has several kiosks on the first floor, and restaurants on the second floor.
