The drama "St. George Slays the Dragon" by Dušan Kovačević is one of the most interesting and probably the best Serbian dramas with themes from the Great War. Before the eyes of the viewers, the drama of the characters of a love triangle unfolds, all in the shadow of the slaughterhouse of the First World War. Vidosav Stevanović wrote, among other things, in the afterword of a printed edition of the play: "...This play carries a motto from Andrić's Roadside Signs, which says: "...Sometimes one wonders if the spirit of most Balkan peoples is not forever poisoned and that, perhaps, he will never be able to do anything other than one thing: to suffer violence and to do it." That bitter, pessimistic statement seems to determine the nature of all events in the drama: violence (suffered or committed) is the only form of life that its heroes know, that they understand and who accept... No Saint George can help them in that war against themselves. neither do they seem to want anyone to help them. The first performance of this work, directed by Ljubomir Muci Draškić, was in Atelje 212 on September 7, 1986, and the play ran until 2005. Eight years later, it was renewed, as a tribute to Ljubomir Draškić, in a new division and is still in the repertoire. The video originates from 1989.
