A former captain of BOPE, Rodrigo created the character Captain Nascimento, who was inspired by his own experience as commander of BOPE's Alfa team, the same team portrayed in the films. It was after the missions that he wrote about what he had experienced with his team and thus the story of Tropa de Elite was born. He was a character in the documentary Notícias de uma Guerra Particular, by João Salles, in which he recounts in detail his experience in BOPE in operations to combat drug trafficking in communities in Rio de Janeiro.
