Jean-Luc Mélenchon spoke at a conference on the political moment on December 19, 2024. Jean-Luc Mélenchon strongly denounced the class contempt and underdevelopment that are rife in Mayotte, calling them the real causes of the recent tragedy. He recalled that this tragedy is not only linked to a climatic event but also to the political abandonment and inhuman treatment reserved for our fellow human beings, a disastrous situation that the rebels have been warning about for years. He also mentioned symbolic battles such as that of Gisèle Pelicot, which he considers a turning point in the evolution of human civilization and invites a deep reflection on the problems linked to the educational culture of men, which he believes to be at the heart of many current crises. Jean-Luc Mélenchon denounced the worsening of inequalities under Emmanuel Macron's mandate, in particular with measures such as the flat tax, which allowed the richest 10% to grab 8.6 billion euros, including 8 billion for only 1% of the population. He criticized the drastic drop in the production of social housing and the increase in real estate speculation, thus illustrating the government's disinterest in the needs of citizens. He also highlighted the failure of the Fifth Republic, which he accuses of allowing Emmanuel Macron to govern alone, without real opposition. He called for a Sixth Republic to give the French people back the respect they deserve.
