On his recent missionary trip to the capital of Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte, Bishop Macedo spoke about the importance of the certainty of Salvation and what is reserved after death for those who believe and for those who die without the guarantee of Eternity with the Almighty. Based on the parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus, narrated by the Lord Jesus and recorded in the Gospel of Luke, the Bishop explained about the torment of hell and the only way to avoid going to this place where pain and suffering will continue for all Eternity. This is the only story of its kind told by the Lord Jesus in which a character has a name. Because of this, some scholars believe it to be a true story. The rich man’s name is not revealed, but the beggar’s name is Lazarus, which means “God is my help.” While the rich man flaunts his riches, the beggar stands at his door looking for crumbs. Although social contrasts separate men, death levels them, which is why it has come for both. From then on, a new and definitive contrast begins, which this time benefits Lazarus. That is, he goes to Abraham's Bosom and the rich man goes to hell. Some fear death because they do not know what comes after it; others doubt the existence of punishment in eternity, claiming that God is incapable of doing so. However, with the intention of revealing the future in an indisputable way, the Lord Jesus shows the destiny of every human being: heaven or hell.
