The old window in the BAUHAUS workshop bungalow needs to be replaced - our workshoppers Susanne and Liam agree on this. Better thermal insulation, noise protection through triple glazing, increased burglary protection and the wear and tear of the old window: all of these things speak in favor of a chic, new window. Let's get started. First of all, measurements are taken. This means: the wall opening is measured - the height in two places, the width in three places on the reveal. The smallest measurement minus the so-called installation gap is then decisive for the order size. The installation gap ensures that there is enough space to align and seal the window frame after the frame has been inserted into the wall opening. It is also important to know whether the reveal has an offset - an edge in the reveal, so to speak, which makes the wall opening narrower towards the outside. If there is an offset, the outside of the frame hits this edge during installation. Once the order dimensions have been determined, the window can be ordered. This is particularly convenient with the BAUHAUS window configurator. This guides you through the entire process and allows you to put together the new window with the desired features yourself. If you are unsure or would prefer to get advice, you can get competent help at the BAUHAUS specialist center. Once the new window has been delivered, the first step is to dismantle the old window or its frame. This is done with a cutter, saw and, if necessary, a cutting grinder. The residues of old foam, glue, silicone, etc. are then removed. And then? The new frame can go in. Before anchoring, it is meticulously aligned using a spirit level and spacers. Before that, however, the multifunctional sealing tape and - if there is an offset in the reveal - the compression tape are attached to the frame. Both tapes expand - they expand and adapt perfectly to the respective surface properties they come into contact with. Once the tapes have been attached and the window frame aligned in the wall opening, the whole thing is screwed together. If the structural conditions allow it, the use of concrete frame screws is recommended. This is followed by hanging the new window and a function test. Ideally, the window should close properly, otherwise it will need to be readjusted. Last but not least, the cosmetic finishing work needs to be done: filling, plastering, painting and... attaching the cover strips. How this all works in detail, what problems could arise and how to solve them - you can see all of this in this episode of the BAUHAUS workshop. 00:00 - Intro 00:54 - Measurements 02:14 - Selecting equipment 03:12 - Installation clearance 03:31 - Ordering dimensions 06:08 - U-values 06:45 - Dismantling the old window 08:41 - Preparing to install the new window 09:18 - Assembly foam or multifunctional sealing tape? 09:29 - Attaching the compression tape 10:25 - Multifunctional sealing tape 11:01 - Aligning and assembling the window frame 12:46 - Hanging the window sash 13:47 - Installing the window sill 16:06 - Finishing work ????
