The special edition of the #Remix show, broadcast on Sunday, December 22, on #TVRCultural, when Doru Ionescu proposed a short history dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the 1989 Revolution. The 2024 presidential elections in Romania brought students to the streets, starting with University Square in Bucharest. The possibility that the country's European direction could even be called into question awakened the conscience of young people. Just as, in 1990, the same place was proclaimed a free zone of (neo)communism. Most had no way of knowing that the same square had also witnessed a student uprising, on Christmas Eve of the year of grace 1968. 35 years after the Romanian Revolution, a kilometer 0 for a special Remix edition about music and protest, which brings together several researches undertaken over the years. The first part summarizes the demonstration of Bucharesters on New Year's Eve 1968 (starting from the intention of the students to sing carols). Innocent and spontaneous at first, the movement turned against Ceaușescu; the climax came four months after the PCR leader had taken a stand against the invasion of Czechoslovakia, when the world seemed to adore him. The edition then highlights the career of Cornel Chiriac, who increased - through the music broadcast and his comments - the popularity of Radio Free Europe (the Romanian-language section, not only in the country)... Then, three singer-songwriters who could not be officially recorded and broadcast, despite their apparently innocent folk compositions. But who spoke about freedom, differently than was allowed by the communist cultists. Mircea Florian, Dorin Liviu Zaharia and Nicu Vladimir increased the Remix portfolio of protest songs. In the third part, some of the songs that broke out with the Romanian Revolution are listed, including from the diaspora. An important moment – highlighting the rockers from the front lines of the Revolution. It is no coincidence that one of the first Bucharest victims of December 89 was called Mihai Gâtlan Lucrețiu "The Rocker", bassist in the bands Interval and Conex 83. The edition showcases more or less well-known songs, but also interviews about the moments or context in which they were composed.
