Available until 04/11/2027 Advocated by Xi Jinping, the grand narrative of national rebirth is in trouble. Today, in China, far from "prosperity for all" and "global leadership", the economy is stagnating, the real estate crisis is raging and the youth unemployment rate has exploded beyond 20%. Faced with a government that chooses to censor statistics and deny reality, some Chinese youth prefer to withdraw from the socio-economic competition inherent in Xi Jinping's China of Reforms. Many graduates struggle to find decent employment. This shattered dream of social success leads to frustration and disillusionment that undermine the foundations of the "Chinese dream" erected as a way of life by the government. "Staying in bed" (tang ping), "letting things go" (bai lan): eager to give meaning to their lives, some young urbanites practice a silent form of protest against the social injections linked to the cult of performance. Still others choose to retreat far from the crowds and seek alternative lifestyles in the countryside. All indicators of a perceptive Asian youth, in tune with a global youth in search of a renewed modernity, eco-compatible, less expensive and more able to confront contemporary challenges. Our reporter gained the trust of Tianqing, 24, a university graduate, Qianqian, 30, a marketing director, and Erchui, 28, a delivery driver. The first two are desperately looking for a new well-paid job and the third is hoping for better days. #chinese #unemployment #arte Subscribe to the ARTE channel / @arte Follow us on social media!
