The five bells of the Redemptorist monastery in Bochum rang for the last time. With a solemn service on Sunday at 3 p.m., the Redemptorists said goodbye to their monastery on Imbuschplatz in Bochum after 143 years. The Maria Hilf monastery church was filled to capacity. Dr. Franz-Josef Overbeck from Essen celebrated the pontifical mass and gave the sermon. At the end of the service, the church was desecrated by the bishop. More at: http://www.redemptoristen.org/index.p... In Bochum, the foundation stone for the monastery was laid in 1868, and that for the church in 1869. The church was consecrated in 1870. Over time, Maria Hilf was dissolved several times - in 1873 by the Prussian government, in 1941 by the Gestapo. During the Second World War, bombs partially destroyed the monastery. It was rebuilt by 1953. For further information see: http://www.derwesten.de/staedte/bochu... The recording of the plenary session is approx. 6 minutes longer in the original.
