Ramayana - Episode 34 - Bond salvation. Shabri's plum. Finding Sugriva's address. While searching for Sita, Ram and Lakshman find ornaments thrown by Sita at a place. This tells them that they are moving in the right direction. Then in the forest, they encounter the demon Kabandha. Kabandha is a huge scary demon who has one eye and no neck. His body is like a lump of thick flesh. He surrounds Ram and Lakshman by extending his arms one yojana long. Lakshman cuts off both his arms with a sword. Kabandha reveals his true identity to Ram and Lakshman and tells them that due to the curse of sage Sthulashira, he has become a demon from a Gandharva. Kabandha has a boon from Brahma that he cannot be killed by any weapon. Therefore, Kabandha asks Ram and Lakshman to burn his body by putting it in a pit, this will free him from the curse and he will come back in Gandharva form and help them in finding Sita. Ram lights Kabandha's pyre. The curse-free Gandharva Danu appears and tells Rama about Ravana's clan and advises him that as they move south, they will find the monkey king Sugreeva on the Rishyamuk mountain. By befriending him, they will be able to find Sita and finally defeat Ravana. The Gandharva also says that the entire route to Sugreeva will be shown to them by the Bhil woman Shabari, who is a disciple of Matang Rishi and has been waiting for years for Lord Rama to come. Every day Shabari picks flowers from the forest and spreads them on the path to her hut. She is confident that one day her Lord Rama's feet will fall on her hut. Finally that moment comes. Rama and Lakshmana enter Shabari's hut. Shabari gives them berries to eat. Shabari has tasted them to ensure that each berry is sweet. Rama is overwhelmed by her devotion. He eats the berries with great relish. Lakshman makes a face at Ram for feeding Shabri's leftover berries, but on the orders of his elder brother, he too has to eat Shabri's leftover berries. Shabri tells him that due to the spiritual power of her Guru, even the violent animals of Matang forest have given up violence. The vegetation always remains green. Shabri also says that Rishi Matang had died after ordering her to tell Ram, who had set out in search of Sita, about Sugreev. Shabri tells that if they go further from here, they will find the Pampapur lake. They will find Sugreev and Hanuman on the two mountain ranges near it. After this, Ram goes with Shabri to visit the divine meditation place of Rishi Matang. On Shabri's request, Ram gives her the knowledge of devotion. Shabri takes Ram's permission and departs from here towards the Param Dham. The Aranya Kand of Ramayana ends with this incident. In the end, Ramanand Sagar, while mentioning the Shabari incident, teaches that if this country believes in Ramayana, then there should be no talk of high, low and caste here.
