"Quiet quitting" is being hotly debated on social media: no more overtime and extra effort at work. Only what the contract requires is done, i.e. work to rule. More attention should be given to family and leisure time. Is a fundamental change in the world of work imminent? Topics in this episode: 00:00 The corona pandemic as a trigger event for "quiet quitting" among younger people? 16:45 Is "quiet quitting" just a "bubble phenomenon"? 23:14 How should we define work? 41:46 "Quiet quitting" as a form of exercising power? 🔔 Subscribe to SRF Kultur Sternstunden now on YouTube 👉 https://www.youtube.com/srfkultur?sub... The term "quiet quitting" was coined by a young man on TikTok. He defines "quiet quitting" as follows: "You don't quit your job, but you don't work more than your contract allows. Work is not your life, your value as a person is not defined by your productivity." Generation Z in particular, but also millennials, do not want to repeat the mistakes of their parents. That means not overexerting yourself at work or defining yourself through work. Weekend shifts are rejected, calls are no longer answered after work, and emails are no longer checked. People are calling for more time to live instead of consumption and career, for a balanced work-life balance. Nobody wants to be a workaholic anymore. Instead, people long to travel the world and devote themselves to meaningful things. A classic "nine to five" job? Uncool. Is the world of work about to undergo a fundamental change? Is it even sensible to look for meaning in the workplace? Is life perhaps even better as a "quiet slacker"? Or is "Quiet Quitting" just the next level of prosperity neglect? At the Philosophical Stammtisch, Barbara Bleisch and Wolfram Eilenberger discuss with Şeyda Kurt, journalist, columnist and author, and with Konrad Liessmann, philosopher and essayist.
