Probation Will End Suddenly, Unexpectedly When Jesus ceases to make intercession for man, the cases of all will be forever decided. . . . Probation ends; the intercessions of Christ cease in heaven. This time finally comes upon all suddenly, and those who have neglected the purification of their souls by obedience to the truth are found asleep.—Testimonies for the Church 2:191 (1868). The close of probation will come suddenly and unexpectedly, when least expected; but we may today have a clear record in heaven, and know that God accepts us.—SDA Bible Commentary 7:1000 (1906). When the work of the investigative judgment is finished, the fate of all will be decided for life or death. Probation will close shortly before the Lord appears on the clouds of heaven . . . Before the flood, after Noah had entered the ark, God shut him in, shutting out the wicked; but for seven days the people, not knowing that their fate was decided, continued in their indifferent pursuit of pleasure, and scoffed at the warnings of the judgment which threatened them. “So,” says the Saviour, “shall also be the coming of the Son of man.” Matthew 24:39. Unseen as a thief at midnight, the decisive hour will come which determines each man’s destiny, when the offer of grace to the guilty will be finally withdrawn. . . . While the business man is absorbed in the pursuit of lucre, while the lover of pleasure is running after it, while the slave of fashion is adorning herself, the time may come when the Judge of all the earth shall pronounce the sentence: “Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.” Daniel 5:27 (KJV).—Security and Peace in the Great Controversy, 545 (1911).
