In 1 Thessalonians 2:18 Paul says, “We were eager to visit you again, and I, Paul, tried again and again, but Satan prevented us.” Can Satan prevent God’s plans from being carried out? With God there are no formulas or patterns. Sometimes He fights for us, other times He doesn’t. Sometimes He does everything and other times it’s up to us. Sometimes it’s by grace and other times it’s the fruit of our effort. Paul, for example, decided not to understand God but to trust in Him. In Matthew 6 the Lord shows us that most of us confuse God’s plans with our personal desires. “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and then all these things will be added to you,” Matthew 6:33. In order not to get frustrated when things don’t go our way, we need to learn to differentiate God’s plans from our personal desires. • God’s plans have to do with establishing His kingdom on earth. • Our personal desires have to do with the things that God promised as an addition if we establish his kingdom on earth: our well-being, happiness, success, personal fulfillment, the fulfillment of our dreams, being famous, our health, rest, and my family. The good news is that, even if we have to take the long road, in the end God will give us the land. Psalm 33:10-11 says: “The Lord frustrates the plans of the nations and causes all their schemes to fail. But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever; his purposes are never thwarted.” Surely, we will have what God has promised us, we will possess the land, we will be happy, we will have well-being, our children’s dreams will come true, our wife’s prayer will be fulfilled, but let us not forget that this is not the main purpose, it is the addition. With God it is not about getting to the goal quickly but getting there, it is not about quickly entering the promised land but about entering, it is not about God's will being done quickly but about doing it.
