An ode to the sins of building! When it comes to architecture that is both loved and hated, prefabricated buildings are probably the classics - too much monotony in mass. Author Jesse Simon has dedicated an entire photo book to the concrete giants. His fascination with the blocks of flats is infectious. The dimensions that residential buildings can take on can be seen in Genoa, where a concrete snake towers over the city. To keep or to tear down? Prefabricated buildings and other residential giants polarize. Oppressive, gigantic and yet fascinating. They are THE classics among the sins of building. Many blocks of flats in Europe, built as an urgently needed solution to the growing housing shortage, have fallen into disrepute over time, while others are praised to the architectural heavens and become cult objects. What makes the difference? The film "Prefabricated Building Paradises" is dedicated to the phenomenon of the large housing giants and gets to the bottom of the so-called prefabricated building system. Author Jesse Simon goes on the hunt for the most beautiful examples of prefabricated buildings in Berlin. Its fascination is infectious. But do you want to live in one? Marianne Czichowski, a Gropiusstadt resident from the very beginning, and artist Erik Schmidt allow visitors to experience the buildings from the inside - they show the apartment block as an organism, as a place of memories and community. Who needs an old building? In Genoa, Francesco Bacci, musician and architectural scientist, leads visitors up to a huge concrete housing snake that towers high above the city. He looks lovingly at this building monster that has long had to endure hatred. Is it now worth protecting? In Paris, a housing association is already celebrating the future of apartment blocks and showing how the glass transformation of social housing dreariness can work. Perhaps we even need a revival of prefabricated buildings.
