This film tells the story of the dubious methods that UBS used to become an accomplice to tax evaders. In doing so, it ruined its reputation and at times came to the brink of bankruptcy. Federal President Hans-Rudolf Merz explains how he experienced the American pressure. He was alerted by Urs Zulauf from the banking supervisory authority in March 2008. Zulauf tells how US pressure on UBS increased enormously at the end of last year and how dramatically the situation escalated without the public knowing about it. And despite the fact that the American central bank warned the other US authorities that a collapse of UBS would be fatal for the global financial system. The film also documents the role of customer advisor Bradley Birkenfeld. It uses new documents to show how Birkenfeld acted. And it reveals that Birkenfeld pilloried UBS but protected himself and another bank - one of the reasons why the American judiciary sentenced him to a harsh sentence at the end of August 2009.
