Text of the Prayer of Detention "Merciful Lord, You once, through the mouth of Moses' servant, Joshua, delayed the movement of the Sun and the Moon for a whole day, until the people of Israel took revenge on their enemies. Through the prayer of the prophet Elisha, You once struck the Syrians, delaying them, and again healed them. You once spoke to the prophet Isaiah: behold, I will return back ten steps the sun's shadow, which passed along the steps of Ahaz, and the sun returned ten steps along the steps along which it descended. (1) You once, through the mouth of the prophet Ezekiel, closed the abysses, stopped the rivers, held back the waters. (2) And You once, through the fasting and prayer of Your prophet Daniel, stopped the mouths of the lions in the pit. (3) And now, restrain and delay until the right time all the plans of those around me about my transfer, dismissal, displacement, expulsion. So now, destroy the evil desires and demands of all who condemn me, stop the mouths and hearts of all who slander, are malicious and roar at me, and all who blaspheme and humiliate me. To you, righteous ones and prayer-books of God, our bold intercessors, who once by the power of your prayers restrained the invasion of foreigners, the approach of the haters, destroyed the evil plans of people, stopped the mouths of lions, I now turn with my prayer, with my request. And you, venerable great Elias of Egypt, who once fenced off the place of settlement of your disciple with the sign of the cross in a circle, commanded him to arm himself with the name of the Lord and not to fear demonic temptations from now on. Pray to God for me, that He may protect me from the wiles of Satan. And you, venerable Basil of the Caves, perform your prayers of intercession over those who attack me and drive away all the wiles of the devil from me. (8) And you, all the saints of the Russian land, dispel by the power of your prayers for me all demonic charms, all the devil's plans and wiles - to annoy me and destroy me and my property.
