This time he spends an unusually long time working out his strategy. This pays off right at the start of the three-way battle. Ash's Mebrana defeats Zebritz, which beat all of Bell's Pokémon the day before! Although Mebrana is completely exhausted, Ash continues to fight with him. But Camilla uses Emolga, which also knows attacks other than the electric type. Emolga defeats Mebrana and we learn that Ash's strategy was based on beating all of Camilla's Pokémon exclusively with Mebrana! After the battle, Ash surprisingly takes a break to continue fighting with Snivy, which is also defeated by Emolga. Ash is completely confused because he doesn't know which Pokémon to use now. As if on cue, Pikachu speaks up and practically begs Ash to join in the fight! It really wants to help Ash and fight for him! Ash agrees, and even though two Electric Pokémon are now battling it out, Pikachu manages to beat Emolga. But then Camilla brings out her secret weapon: Zapplardin. This tiny little Pokémon is really incredibly strong. It almost looks like Pikachu will lose, but Ash and Pikachu work hand in hand and use a strategy that overpowers both Camilla and Zapplardin and helps Ash to his fourth Unova Gym Badge in no time!
