In 1988, historian Roger Chartier hosted sociologist Pierre Bourdieu at France-Culture for a series of five interviews. In a dialogue that demonstrated both their complicity and a clear awareness of their differences, the sociologist and the historian confronted the advances and problems of their two disciplines, and their respective roles in society. Together, they analyzed the illusions and confusions spread by intellectual-prophets, which hinder the emancipatory role of sociology and history. Thirty years later, their remarks have not aged a bit. 1st interview: What is sociology? 2nd interview 28'40: The philosophy of determinism, a look back at the reactions to his book on distinction and resistance to sociology and finally his support for Coluche's candidacy For more details on this last point: http://www.latique.fr/videos/pierre-b...
