When the femur and the pelvis come together, they form one of the most important joints in the human body, the hip joint. You can find more information here: http://khub.me/grq28. In this video, we will be looking at the osteology of the femur and a special part of the pelvis known as the coxa. Remember, the coxa is formed by the fusion of three bones: the ischium, the ilium, and the pubis. Together, they form the acetabulum, the area where the head of the femur articulates with the hip bone. So we will be talking about this and many other bony elements associated with these important bones of the lower limb. Keep in mind that throughout the video, we will not only talk about bony landmarks, but also mention some of their functions. At the end of the video, we will talk about the ligaments that connect the femur and the coxa.
