Difficulty: See description Travel time: 8-10 h Difference in altitude: 1,630 m Dolomite Group: Monte Pelmo Departure: Malga Ciauta Arrival: Cima del Monte Pelmo (3168 m) Recommended period: Summer Very beautiful, interesting and challenging itinerary, which allows you to reach one of the most beautiful and important peaks of the Dolomites, Monte Pelmo. Incredible panorama from the summit of the Civetta group, the Moiazza and the surrounding valleys. The route is long and exposed in some places; it requires the habit of walking on delicate terrain with gravel and rocks and on exposed ledges with numerous climbing sections of grade I and II. Itinerary From the Venezia refuge, initially follow path no. 480 in a north-westerly direction on a path with mountain pines and then on scree. At the first fork, leave the path that continues towards the Forcella di Val d'Arcia and climb to the left in the direction of the rocks. Follow a trail with old red marks that allows you to overcome a first ledge and then reach the base of the Ball ledge. Now follow the ledge in a southerly direction on a flat and slightly uphill path, with an exposed route along traces of a path. You pass three channels that cut into it. In the last channel is the famous Passo del Gatto, considered the key passage of the climb. This is a section where you have to proceed on all fours to overcome a ledge (grade II, bolt and old rope). After this point the ledge becomes more accessible even if still exposed and leads to the lower edge of the large debris basin located between the two shoulders of Pelmo. Go up the valley with numerous zigzags to the base of a rocky band. The route continues overcoming some steps always with back and forth until the upper cirque of Vant. Now climb in a westerly direction until the crest. From here with an exposed route in a south-westerly direction you reach the summit.
