OUDE PEKELA - 'A study of nothing'. This is how alderman Hennie Hemmes describes the study by weekly magazine Elsevier, in which Pekela comes out as the least attractive municipality. According to the study, the municipality lacks beautiful nature, there are too few shops in the area and there is very little to do. Media silence 'I feel a bit gloomy about this, we are doing well and these kinds of studies give a negative image of Pekela. That is fighting a losing battle', says Hemmes. The municipal government is so fed up with the negative noises that it does not want to speak to the media anymore after Friday. Incidentally, the controversial Elsevier is no longer for sale in the whole of Pekela. The village page PrachtigPekela.nl has started a campaign against the weekly magazine. On the site, members can send a protest email to the editors of Elsevier. This has already happened hundreds of times.
