The steamship fleet of the Lake Lucerne Shipping Company (SGV) has one of the largest steamship fleets in Europe with 5 paddle steamers, alongside the White Fleet in Dresden and the CGN fleet on Lake Geneva. 100 years of DS Gallia, 50 years of MS Winkelried and the recommissioning of MS Schwyz were the occasion for the parade of the proud ladies in May 2013. The Gallia is considered to be the fastest paddle steamer in Europe. This was proven during the parade in an impressive race. The parade started in the morning in Lucerne. The trip led through the Lucerne lake basin, through the Kreuztrichter and along the Bürgenstock. Here the order of the ships was changed in impressive overtaking maneuvers. When entering Lake Uri the foehn showed its best side. In storm and waves the formation sailed to Rütli. From there it went back to Lucerne. In addition to the Gallia (1913), the oldest steamship in the fleet, the Uri (1901), the Unterwalden (1902), the Schiller (1906), the flagship Stadt Luzern (1928) and the motor ships Winkelried and Schwyz also took part in the parade.
