In today's lesson we'll do some repertoire, I'll show you how to play Nuestro Juramento by Julio Jaramillo on guitar, we'll look at the introduction's solo, the rhythm, the chords, and we'll explain the song musically so that you don't just play it out but so that you can learn a lot of things from it. The first thing we find in Nuestro Juramento is the introduction solo, as we'll see in the lesson, what it does is play the notes of the chords, drawing the harmony. The verse is in the key of Bm, it highlights the use of secondary dominants and a change of tone where for a moment it goes to F#m and then to Em. In the chorus a very frequent resource is used, the key is changed to the relative major, in this case D, here it makes a step to the key of Em and returns to the main key of Bm. Boleros usually have loaded harmonies, it is one of the characteristics of the style, the use of chords with seventh, secondary dominants, tone changes, among other resources make this style an excellent school to learn and see the application of harmony. Even if you are not a fan of boleros, I suggest you take out Nuestro Juramento, it is an excellent challenge and can give us ideas to arrange, reharmonize or compose.
