I had to redo my Suistamo video due to a technical error in it. Suistamo was perhaps our most famous keepers from the villages of Border Karelia. Before the Winter War, 63% of the municipality were Orthodox, and the most famous landmark, St. Nicholas Church, completed in 1844, was still intact in 2017. In 1589, Suistamo is mentioned in documents as the chapel parish of Sortavala. Suistamo became an independent keeper in the middle of the 17th century. In this video, I present the villages of Suistamo with the help of old photos, while telling the history of the villages.
