Rocky landscapes shaped by nature, intricate trails between mountains and stories of our natives make this adventure unforgettable. The Ongamira caves are considered one of the 7 natural wonders of Córdoba. Don't miss them! Ongamira is located north of the Punilla Valley, 115 kilometers from Córdoba. Its natural setting invites adventure and is an ideal place to learn about the native peoples of Córdoba. The area is of archaeological interest, since ethnic groups live there and use the place as a settlement. Wind and water erosion forms large walls and natural overhangs that the aborigines take advantage of. Currently, archaeologists are working on the site. You can visit a research space and a series of overhangs with mortars. The Ongamira valley forms an unusual and extremely attractive landscape. When touring the region, you can observe the contrast of the red sandstone rock with the green mountain landscape. The main attractions for walking are: the Ongamira Caves area – with easy trails – and El Cerro Charalqueta or Colchiqui, which rises to 1,575 meters above sea level and is the best viewpoint of the entire Ongamira Valley. Its trail, full of nature and history, takes us on a journey through time. According to history – written in some documents from the colonizers themselves – during the Spanish invasion, some aborigines sacrificed themselves from the top of the hill to avoid servitude. From the top, there are panoramic views of the Ongamira Valley and the Sierras Chicas. There are also guided tours of archaeological excavations and the traveling museum. All of these sites are located on private land, so an entrance fee must be paid. How to get there: take RN 38 towards Charbonier. You enter the road at km 91, then travel 17 km on gravel to Ongamira.
