Most of them reappear within a few days, only around ten cases per year remain unsolved. But how can people disappear without a trace? How do relatives feel in such a situation and what does the police do? It is not uncommon for a crime to be behind a long period of disappearance. In the small Styrian community of Stainz, there has only been one topic since mid-January: Where is Waltraud? The 60-year-old was last seen in a pizzeria, then her bag was found in a parking lot, and since then there has been no trace of her. In Stainz, everyone is on their feet to find Waltraud. The police, the fire brigade, several dog teams and hundreds of volunteers from the local community. "That something like this happens in the country! In the city we are used to it, but here?" wonders a local in the pub. The neighbor and best friend of the missing woman has been doing nothing but helping with the search for weeks: "The worst thing is the uncertainty. Did someone lock her up? Did someone take her?" The family of siblings Andreas and Sandra has had a dark secret for 40 years. In 1981, Maria, the great uncle's girlfriend, disappeared without a trace; she had supposedly fled abroad. Despite this, there were always rumors in the family that something bad had happened to Maria, that family members had something to do with the mysterious disappearance. Andreas wants to solve this alleged criminal case now, 40 years later. He is convinced that Maria was murdered and also believes he knows where the body is. Meanwhile, the criminal police are also asking themselves: Where is Maria O.? Why has no one reported her missing? For Brigitta Scharinger, life has come to a standstill since January 22, 2018. On that day, her 21-year-old daughter Jenni disappeared without a trace from her apartment in Vienna. "I can't think about what I'm going to grow in the garden or where I'm going on vacation until I know what happened to Jenni," said the mother. Brigitta Scharinger believes it is impossible that her daughter disappeared voluntarily. After the investigation was closed in 2019, she has been searching for her child on her own for four years.
