All these are God's gifts, evidence of His love for us, but man is very inclined to attribute them to himself, considering them to be his qualities. And only periods of decline in his life can show how much he himself loves God, how much he can remain faithful to Him without experiencing any obvious consolations, joys and pleasures of life with Him.
