Nutritionist, how can you understand if the iron in your body is really doing its job? I'm Joice Mazzini, a functional nutritionist who graduated 12 years ago and specializes in ASD and ADHD, food selectivity, and atypical mothers. I want to help you develop your nutritional care. Today, I'm going to explain how ferritin and transferrin can indicate different metabolic conditions, ranging from the beginning of iron deficiency to a high risk of hemochromatosis. And, best of all, I'm going to show you this in a way that makes sense. Let's start with the first situation. Imagine that ferritin has started to drop, but transferrin saturation is still adequate. This could be the first sign that the body is entering iron deficiency. Sounds complicated? Don't worry, let's continue. Now, what if ferritin and transferrin saturation drop together? This indicates something more serious: we're already talking about an iron deficiency – just one step before anemia. But what happens when ferritin is high and transferrin saturation is low? In this case, the body has iron, but it is trapped and does not go where it needs to. This may be the result of inflammation. And guess what? That is why you feel all the symptoms of anemia. Now, here comes a situation that few people know about: high ferritin and transferrin saturation. This is a clear sign of the risk of hemochromatosis and requires immediate medical attention. It may seem like just a detail, but it is not! What if high ferritin is accompanied by low transferrin saturation? It may also indicate serious conditions, such as steatosis or hepatitis, often associated with poorly controlled diabetes. Each of these situations carries an important meaning regarding the health of the body. Do not let these signs go unnoticed. Through iron, ferritin, transferrin and blood count, + B6, B9 and B12, we can make a correlation with methylation deficiency, which is very common in ASD.
