This national highway runs from Hiroshima City across the Chugoku Mountains to Yonago City, Tottori Prefecture. It heads south from its terminus in Yonago City. There are many overlapping sections of the route, but even here Route 183 does not appear on the surface. Generally, the traffic flows well. A bypass has been built in the Kishimoto district of Hoki Town, which was previously congested.
