The figure of Napoleon Bonaparte emerged after the French Revolution. He ended up seizing absolute power, crowning himself emperor and embarking his country on an expansionist spiral: the Napoleonic Wars. Beyond the military sphere, as a ruler Napoleon forced Europe to enter modernity and included in his policies some of the ideas that emerged from the Enlightenment.
