Muhammad bin Al-Qasim Al-Thaqafi, the leader of one of the conquest armies, was famous for being the conqueror of Sindh. His father, Al-Qasim Al-Thaqafi, was the governor of Basra. Al-Hajjaj became furious after seeing his forces fall martyr after martyr, so he swore to conquer these lands and spread Islam throughout them. He decided to launch an organized campaign, and Caliph Al-Walid bin Abdul Malik agreed, after Al-Hajjaj promised to return to the state treasury twice what he spent on conquering Sindh. Al-Hajjaj chose Muhammad bin Al-Qasim Al-Thaqafi to lead the army of conquest, because of his firmness, bravery and self-sacrifice, so he equipped him with all the equipment he needed on the battlefield. Muhammad bin Al-Qasim Al-Thaqafi moved with his army of 20,000 elite soldiers, and the army crossed the borders of Iran in 90 AH to India.
