Vladimir Putin tested the new Oreshnik missile system, called it a “reliable guarantor of Russia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty,” nominated its creators for state awards, promised serial production, and threatened the entire world — he is ready to use this missile again and no one can resist it. Putin made this address to the military, the people of Russia, and “our friends around the world and those who harbor illusions about the possibility of inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia,” the day after the Oreshnik — the latest experimental ballistic system — struck the Ukrainian Dnieper and the Yuzhmash enterprise, a strike that shook the world media. According to Putin, this was a response to the Ukrainian military using Western long-range ATACMS and Storm Shadow missiles to strike Russia. Putin praises the Oreshnik: “They attack a target at a speed of Mach 10, which is 2.5-3 kilometers per second. The world's modern air defense systems and the missile defense systems being created by the Americans in Europe cannot intercept such missiles. This is out of the question." And he is ready to use this and other new medium- and shorter-range missiles again against military facilities of any country that allows their weapons to be used against Russian facilities, and promised a mirror response to any external aggression. "The regional conflict in Ukraine provoked by the West has acquired elements of a global nature," Putin assured.
