This has also changed the character of the former village of Zermatt, from where Edward Whymper and his companions first climbed the summit in 1865: Today, thousands of mountaineers and would-be alpinists set off from there every year to stand on the summit of the Matterhorn once in their lives. Michael Düchs and the Bergauf-Bergab team have also set out to climb the Matterhorn - and at the same time to explore its status between myth and commerce. They got support from locals: top Zermatt alpinist and mountain guide Simon Anthamatten accompanied the team to the summit, and Kurt Lauber, who was the Hörnlihütte's hut warden for many years, reports on the summer rush to the mountain. The program about the Matterhorn was broadcast for the first time in 2013.
