The Carthusian Order was founded by St. Bruno in the Chartreuse Valley of France in 1084. Currently, approximately 370 monks in 11 countries around the world devote their lives to pursuing the truth of eternity in strict solitude and silence. And 15 years ago, the only Carthusian cloistered monastery in Asia was established in Korea according to the wishes of Pope John Paul II. Following the strict training of monks in the cloistered monastery, we reflect on the meaning of seeking. Part 1 is divided into chapters on silence, dialogue, and renunciation, and shows only videos, subtitles, and on-site sounds without narration to increase immersion. Why do they undergo arduous training in a cloistered monastery? Silence: The lives of monks who are cloistered in a monastery even after death. Monastic life in solitude and silence. Mass and night prayers. Labor. Strict monastic discipline such as fasting and eating only rice. The dry and desolate path of seeking. Dialogue: Korean conversation classes for foreign monks allowed as an exception to the silent training. Spiritual yet very human conversations that unfold during a 4-hour walk every Monday. Renunciation: Family visits allowed only two days a year. The great renunciation of a monk who has abandoned everything. 55:00 Part 2 (broadcast on December 25, 2019) The 'Carthusian' cloistered monastery located at the foot of Sangoksan Mountain in Sangju, Gyeongbuk. It depicts the lives of monks who are pursuing the truth of eternity in a narrow space of their own choosing. Bishop Dubong has been an assistant since 20 years ago, when the monastery was being prepared for its establishment. One meal a day without side dishes, shabby clothes sewn with a sewing machine, and a frugal and simple life combined with labor give a symbolic message to modern people who are steeped in greed and competition. It expresses the lives of monks who follow 'solitude and silence' as a religious, philosophical, and somewhat heavy subject through video. Holes: Socks, gloves... A poor life filled with props with holes everywhere. Freedom of the soul and non-possession gained through chosen poverty. And a heart of mercy for poor neighbors. Body: Aging and disease of the body that cannot be avoided as a human being. The monks' attitude toward it. Paris: Insights into suffering and deprivation completed like a puzzle through a single fly 1:49:19 Part 3 (broadcast on December 26, 2019) Monks leave everything behind and rely only on the essentials, and in that life, they find deep communion with all people in the world. Because we are all together in God. However, it takes time to make one of His mysteries our own. It may seem impossible to spend a lifetime in a monastery, but it takes a whole life to enter into union with God. Community: Harvesting and sharing. The brotherhood of fellow monks who live together for life. Perpetual: The story of a cloistered monk who has just completed his perpetual vows and his sister, a nun. Brothers and sisters who follow God's will in different ways. World: A calling to the world. Prayer for all creation, the living and the dead. An endless journey of seeking the mystery of God in silence and solitude. #Carthusian #Cloister #Silence #Monastery #Retreat
