The series of lectures Shakespeare and his time was continued even in the time of anti-pandemic measures, although for the time being only without an audience and in the form of a streamed transmission. The greatest Czech expert on Shakespeare's work, Professor Martin Hilský, has already published an extensive commentary on Shakespeare's work (Shakespeare and the Stage World), a complete translation of Shakespeare's work (William Shakespeare: Dílo), and completed his book trilogy with the book Shakespeare's England: Portrait of the Age. In today's insightful talk, the author reveals the interesting process of the creation of this book and gives us an insight into the lives of Shakespeare's contemporaries of all social classes at the time. The lecture took place in the Central Library of the Municipal Library in Prague, in cooperation with the British Council. Lecturer: Prof. PhDr. Martin Hilský, CSc., leading Czech translator of Shakespeare's works. Holder of a number of important awards (e.g. Order of the British Empire, State Prize for Translation Work, Medal of Merit, Tom Stoppard Prize, Josef Jungmann Prize, Czech Head or Vojtěch Náprstek Medal for services to the popularization of science).
