For as long as Sebastian Beck can remember, he has spent his summers on the mountain, more precisely on the Oberberg Alpine pasture in the Allgäu, high above Immenstadt. Four generations of his family have worked here as mountain farmers. After the sudden accidental death of his father, Sebastian had to take over the alpine pasture from one day to the next at the age of 24. Since then, from May to October, he has been on the mountain with his wife Mona, young son Seppi and daughter Sophie, responsible for 35 cows that farmers from the valley put up for boarding. The family uses the milk in their alpine kitchen to produce fresh dairy products such as cheese, curd, butter and buttermilk. Much of this is marketed directly and sold to hikers on the alpine pasture. Even though the day on the mountain starts early and lasts a long time, Sebastian did not hesitate for a second to take up his legacy as an alpine pasture farmer and carry on the family tradition.
