In this episode of Road Inspectors you will see how road inspector Stefan handles a height notification at a tunnel and takes action at a major fire along the highway. During his service in the Amsterdam region, road inspector Stefan is at the right place at the right time at the Coentunnel (A10). As he drives up to the tunnel, the traffic lights turn red due to a height notification for the tunnel. A height notification means that a vehicle that is too high (often a truck) has been detected. We continuously monitor all our tunnels using cameras and detection points. In Europe, the rule is that vehicles may not be higher than 4 meters. If a higher vehicle is detected, the tunnel is closed to prevent damage. Road inspector Stefan immediately takes action and manually measures the height of the truck in question. After handling the height notification at the Coentunnel, road inspector Stefan soon receives a report of a major fire along the highway. Due to the fact that smoke formation can pose a danger to traffic, we at Rijkswaterstaat also take action in these types of incidents. Stefan goes to the scene to better assess the risks of the fire for traffic on the highway.
